Michael McCann DO FACOS FACS returned to his alma mater to assume duties as program director of Hurley’s Trauma Surgery Fellowship in 2012. He completed his own trauma fellowship at Hurley before taking on the role program director of the same fellowship.

Dr. McCann received his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from Western University of Health Services, Pomona, Calif. He completed his internship and residency at Michigan State University-Genesys Regional Medical Center, Grand Blanc. He completed his trauma fellowship through a combined Henry Ford Health System-Hurley Medical Center fellowship program in Flint, followed by a trauma & surgical critical care fellowship at Henry Ford Health Systems, Detroit, Mich.

Experience & Certifications

Prior to returning to Hurley, McCann was principal subinvestigator at Cotton-O’Neil Clinical Research Center in Topeka, Kansas, and trauma, general surgical, and critical surgeon - as well as trauma medical director and director of surgical intensive care - at Stormont-Vail Healthcare in Topeka.

Board-certified in general surgery and surgical critical care, Dr. McCann is on the faculty of Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, Department of Surgery. He has special clinical interests in laparoscopic and robotic minimally invasive surgical techniques, as well as extensive experience in endocrine, colorectal, esophageal, breast, and trauma surgery.
