Is your Internal Medicine Residency Training Program university-based or university-affiliated, community-based, or a military or community hospital?
Our Transitional Year residency program is part of premier public teaching medical center recognized as a regional resource for advanced specialized health care. We are a community-based residency program with a major affiliation with the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. About 100 Michigan State University College of Human Medicine medical students complete required clerkships at Hurley. As a Transitional Year resident, you have the opportunity to obtain an appointment as an instructor resident at the MSU College of Human Medicine.

Do you require U.S. clinical experience to be considered for a position in your residency program?
While U.S. clinical experience is not necessary to be considered for a position in the Transitional Year residency program, it is given some consideration when selecting candidates for interviews.

What are the minimum USMLE and COMLEX scores that you require for Internal Medicine Programs?
USMLE: A score of 210 is the minimum three-digit score used for USMLE Steps 1 and 2-Clinical Knowledge in our Transitional Year Residency Training program. Candidates must have passed Steps 1 and 2-Clinical Knowledge on the first two attempts. Candidates also are required to pass the Clinical Skills section on Step 2 within the first two attempts.
COMLEX: Candidates who take COMLEX Level 1 and COMLEX Level 2 must have a passing score that is at or above the national mean for their exam year. Candidates must have passed both levels within the first two attempts.
