In addition to strong USMLE scores, we also require Pediatric residency applicants to have graduated from medical school no more than five years before entering the Pediatrics Residency Program, unless the applicant has significant pediatric experience in the interim.

We look at the entire application when evaluating candidates; however, candidates must pass the USMLE Steps 1 & 2 Clinical Knowledge and Step 2 Clinical Skills within the first two attempts. In general, the minimum USMLE score is 220 for both USMLE Step 1 and Step 2. Candidates who take COMLEX Level 1 and COMLEX Level 2 must have a passing score that is at or above the national mean for their exam year - and also must pass in the first two attempts.

Yes, we welcome osteopathic physicians to apply for our residency positions. To do so, visit the allopathic Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) online at: https://www.aamc.org/services/eras/, and submit your application, personal statement, dean’s letter, etc. Your COMLEX scores are an acceptable alternative to the USMLE scores. 

Candidates who take COMLEX Level 1 and COMLEX Level 2 must have a passing score that is at or above the national mean for their exam year - and they must past both levels in the first two attempts for all residency training programs at Hurley.

International medical graduates are welcomed and encouraged to submit an application to our program. 

No, all applications are reviewed only on ERAS. No advice or recommendation is given over email or telephone. The program does have eligibility criteria; however, all applications are reviewed in their entirety only on ERAS. 

The Pediatric Residency Program receives more than 3000 applications; it is impossible to notify every applicant of his or her application status. Applicants who are invited for an interview will receive an interview invitation.

Interviews for the 2018 Match will be conducted in October, November and December 2017. There will be no interviews in January.

We do not require U.S. experience. However, if an applicant has had significant pediatric experience in a US practice or hospital, that can be an asset.

No pre-match positions are offered in our residency training programs.

Traditional 24-hour calls exist only on the weekends for interns and seniors on the floor or PICU.

We are fully compliant with ACGME duty-hour rules. With a combination of night float systems and long and short call shifts, as well as physician extenders (nurse practitioners and physician assistants), we have implemented a system that complies with duty-hour rules and preserves continuity of care.
